Munich airport without regional and city trains until March 23, 2026
Passengers flying from Munich airport or who wants to reach the city and its surroundings will face difficulties over the next four days, from March 19 to 23, 2026.
The airport is already confronted to a strike initiated by Verdi transport union. From today, March 18 until Friday, March 20 at 4 a.m., access to the airport is limited as public transportation in Munich stopped running.
The subway (U-Bahn), tram, and bus lines operated by the local Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) are either stopped or severely limited. Meanwhile, the S-Bahn (suburban train) is running normally during that time, reaching the airport. However, only until tomorrow evening!
Passengers flying from Munich will indeed face more complications due to a complete suspension of rail traffic to and from Munich Airport. With the German rail Deutsche Bahn starting construction work, no trains – neither S-Bahn nor airport express trains (ÜFEX) – will be running between Thursday, March 19, at 9:30 PM and Monday, March 23, at 5:00 AM.
A replacement bus service is meanwhile provided, starting from the airport to Neufahrn and to Ismaning stations. From there passengers can catch again the S-Bahn train to Munich city center. Local tickets remain valid, but passengers should expect extended travel times of 20 to 40 minutes and a high volume of passengers.
