National parks share the experience winners
The grand prizewinner
Contest entries showcase the more than 500 million acres of federal lands and draws entries from all across the United States.
The National Park Foundation http://www.nationalparks.org/ , the official charity of America’s national parks, has announced the winners of the Share the Experience http://www.sharetheexperience.org/ photo contest.
This annual contest encourages amateur photographers to explore the nation’s federal lands and share their experiences by capturing and submitting their favorite shots. The winning picture will be featured on the 2013 Federal Recreational Lands Pass.
This year, Glen Maki of Wofford Heights, California received the grand prize for his photo of an outdoor enthusiast kayaking through the raging white water of the mighty Kern River in California’s Sequoia National Forest http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/
In addition to his photo being featured on next year’s Federal Recreational Lands Pass, Mr. Maki will receive a four day/three night trip for four people to a National Recreation Area of his choosing, a Magellan GPS eXplorist 610, a REI gift card and a Federal Recreational Lands Pass.
First prize went to Vanessa Lau of Springfield, Virginia for her photo of Montana’s Glacier National Park http://www.nationalparks.org/discover-parks/index.cfm?fa=viewPark&pid=GLAC . Gilda B. from Pacific Palisades, California received second prize for her photo of a sea turtle in Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park http://www.nationalparks.org/discover-parks/index.cfm?fa=viewPark&pid=KAHO in Hawaii and third prize went to Laura Vu of Fort Worth, Texas for her photo of Ouachita National Forest in central Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma.
This year’s honorable mention recipients are: Ilene Eberly of Stone Harbor, New Jersey; Jeremy Evans of Valencia, California; Michael Hamilton of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jeanne Johnson of Land O Lakes, Florida; Michael Kirkland of Chicago, Illinois; Raghuveer Makala of Sunnyvale, Calfornia; Craig McCaskill of Boulder, Colorado; Eve Schrank of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Chris Summitt of Tuscon, Arizona; and Murrey Walker of Branson, Missouri.
In total, 14,886 photos were submitted over the course of the contest, which ran from June 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
