New body to promote islands worldwide
A new body to promote tourism to islands throughout the world has been set up by the former chief of Guernsey Tourism.
World Island Tourism has been set up by Christopher Brock and aims to address the common issues facing islands worldwide.
“During my time at Guernsey Tourism I realised that islands did not communicate with each other although they share so many common problems,” said Brock.
“I wanted to bring the islands together so they can communicate and look at ways to solve these problems.”
Members have to pay an £8,000 annual membership fee to finance a range of activities such as market research, statistical updates, seminars, workshops and conferences.
Issues common to most islands include external transport links, isolation, staff and training problems and difficulty attracting inward investment.
Former Thomson communications boss Russell Amerasekera, a presenter on Wish You Were Here?, will moderate the organisation’s first conference in London on November 12.
