New flight to Scandinavian ski resort takes off from Heathrow

SAS has started flying to Scandinavian Mountains Airport from Heathrow, just one week after the opening of this state-of-the-art terminal.

Also known as Sälen Airport, it is perfectly located within less than an hour from the vast ski areas of Sälen in Sweden or Trysil in Norway (pictured).

The two resorts combined have over 250 slopes and is ideal for skiers and boarders alike as well as miles of cross-country runs, which this part of the world is renowned for.

Sälen, in the Dalarna region, is one of Sweden’s best-loved resorts, consisting of six ski areas: Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjället, Stöten and Kläppen.

There there are over 100 slopes in all directions and an extensive snow system that guarantees great skiing all season long.

With a Sälen SkiPass, skiers can connect to over 100 pristine slopes by chair and button lifts plus free ski bus.

Sälen has got something for all ages with a water park, indoor surfing, a cinema, dog sled tours, snowmobile safaris and some cosy restaurants serving Scandinavian fair.

Trysil, meanwhile, is 200kms north of Oslo in Norway.

The ski resort is built on the slopes of the 1,132-metre-high Trysilfjellet mountain, with slopes for advanced skiers and beginners.

Many national teams from different countries use this as their World Cup training base.

The lifts here are super-modern and come with heated seats.

For those who can’t make up their minds, the two resorts are just a short hop across the border from each other.

SAS’s Heathrow flight leaves each Saturday at 06:40 from Heathrow, returning at 12:55.
