New meeting complex opens in Cedar Rapids
The DoubeTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids Convention Center opened yesterday after a two-year $144 million capital improvement and expansion plan led by the city of Cedar Rapids.
Formerly the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons, the property was bought by Cedar Rapids in 2011 as part of a plan to create a state-of-the-art convention center project that includes the adjacent 9,600-seat U.S. Cellular Arena, as well as an 80,000-square-foot convention complex.
The 80,000-square-foot U.S. Cellular Convention Center offers flexible meeting space to accommodate up to 10,000, and the latest in A/V technology.
The upscale, full-service hotel features a contemporary design, with original sculptures and artwork, and a lobby bar.
The ballrooms have acoustic ceiling tiles that emulate a river’s flow, with fiber optic technology for color special effects.
On the 16th floor, the hotel’s new restaurant overlooks Cedar Rapids and the Cedar River.
The hotel is offering a grand opening meeting package for groups booking 10 or more rooms, offering a minimum of 15% off the best available rate, a complimentary general session room, and 10% off food and beverage. The meeting package offer is based upon availability and is for new customers only.
Attendees who are HHonors members will get double points through September 1, 2013.
And, of course, every DoubleTree guest gets a chocolate chip cookie.
