New way to get around at Gaylord
The new and first-of-its-kind iConnect at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention center in Kissimmee is a tool to give meeting planners and guests immediate access to hotel services.
Using a so-called “thin technology” system, users in the Florida facility’s 1,406 guest rooms can click a mouse to have a host of services that include high-speed internet access, room-to-room messages or special requests.
A spokesperson for the hotel said the system was specifically designed for the hotel and while it may be most used by meeting planners, it is also available to all guests.
Using the system, guests for the first time can:
- Surf the internet from their guest rooms without a laptop.
- Order services such as more towels by sending a message directly to housekeeping and keep track of the request in real time.
- Browse a menu or send a dining request for room service.

But one of the most popular features of iConnect may be its GPS-like mapping system offering the shortest route for guests to get from point A to point B.
Gaylord here and in other locations are often known for their fine landscaping and high level of service but guests at times complain it is hard to find their way around the large properties.
