New York announces reopening timeline for theme parks
Theme parks and indoor amusement parks across New York State may reopen from this spring.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said parks must submit reopening plans and are subject to strict protocols.
He gave an opening timeline which begins from 26 March when indoor amusement attractions can reopen at 25% capacity.
Outdoor amusement parks may open at 33% capacity by 9 April, and campgrounds can start welcoming guests again in the summer.
"With continued decreases in the infection and hospitalization rates, we have been able to take steps toward beginning our post-Covid recovery and we are excited to now be in a place where we can bring back our recreational industries with safety protocols in place," Cuomo said.
Indoor entertainment centers and similar venues must ensure face coverings are worn even on rides, collect contact information from all customers and only sell tickets in advance to ensure it can close off sales when capacity is reached.
They must also comply with air filtration and ventilation standards.
Cuomo said other specific Covid containment rules will be required and these will be announced in the coming weeks.
New York has seen infection rates fall but at a slower pace than the national average.
"We are thrilled with Governor Cuomo’s announcement for the reopening of family attractions, including outdoor theme parks. This means LEGOLAND New York Resort will be able to celebrate its grand opening this season as planned and we look forward to sharing more details soon," said Stephanie Johnson, Divisional Director of LEGOLAND New York Resort.
