New York Times launches immersive Holy Land itineraries
The New York Times’ travel program, called Times Journeys, is expanding its offerings to include a wide range of land-based tours.
The Times is teaming up with operators Abercrombie & Kent, Mountain Travel Sobek and Academic Travel Abroad to market a range of immersive, educational tours including trips examining Israeli-Palestinian relations in depth.
Entitled ‘the Israeli-Palestinian Conundrum,’ the nine-day tour takes in typical highlights such as Tel Aviv, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee and Jericho as well as many sites well off the radar on conventional Holy Land tours.
Stops will be made at border crossings, West Bank settlements, kibbutzim, cultural centers and places of worship on both sides of the divide.
Talks will also be held by experts including religious leaders, journalists, activists, community leaders and even an Israeli political adviser and a former Palestinian member of parliament.
Tours depart in October and November and are priced at $5,950 per person.
Times Journeys began in 2012 and has previously focused mainly on cruise programs.
