New Zealand scenic train cracks down on selfie risk-takers
One of New Zealand’s’ top scenic rail journeys is cracking down on dangerous selfies.
KiwiRail last month closed off its outdoor viewing carriage due to selfie snappers leaning out of the carriage and putting their lives quite literally on the line.
The 350km Picton – Christchurch line, which is one of KiwiRail’s Great Journeys of New Zealand routes, has seen countless snap-happy tourists putting themselves and others in danger.
The KiwiRail Coastal Pacific tourist train has now closed off the viewing car ‘until a safety solution is found.’
"We’ve seen more passengers placing themselves in danger by leaning out to take photographs." The company said on its website.
Safety signs and announcements are not deterring people, it says.
The viewing car has been part of the train for more than a decade.
The KiwiRail Coastal Pacific train runs daily during the summer along the famed Kaikoura Coastline.
