Now that MUST be a tall story
British Airways flight delayed because pilot could not reach pedals
There are a myriad of reasons why flights get delayed – and some of them may even be amusing – but few air travellers can have sat on the tarmac for an hour because the pilot could not reach the aircraft’s pedals.
But passengers aboard flight BA341 from Nice to Heathrow last Wednesday received the following announcement as they waited for their flight to take off: “I’m sorry, but there is going to a slight delay because the co-pilot’s seat is stuck. He needs to be able to reach the controls.”
According to the Mail on Sunday, the flight’s co-pilot Tareq Al-Daftary could not reach the brake and rudder pedals; this was clearly essential in case the captain of the flight was not able to continue piloting for whatever reason. Technicians were called to the plane, and “after 45 minutes of banging and crashing, the seat was returned and screwed back into the cockpit”.
A BA spokesman said: “Safety and security are always our first priority.”
