Ocean Park raising admission prices

Tuesday, 09 Dec, 2016 0
Hong Kong’s Ocean Park theme park will raise ticket prices in the new Year after suffering its biggest loss in nearly 30 years.

Admission prices will go up 13.8% from January 1 after posting losses of HK$240 million (US$30.9 million) in the last fiscal year.

That will take ticket prices up to HK$438 for adults and HK$219 for children.

The increase will be waived for Hong Kong residents until March 2017.

It was its first deficit since 2003 when tourism was hit hard in Hong Kong during the SARS outbreak.

Like rival Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park’s troubles stem mostly from the general fall in visitors from mainland China.

Ticket income fell 18.6% in the year to June and in-park revenue fell more than 16%.

Ocean Park chairman Leo Kung Lin-cheng said the new ticket prices remain competitive and should not have a negative effect on park attendance.
