Ohio and Michigan looking for tourists

Two Midwestern states, Ohio and Michigan, are stepping up their tourism efforts.

Ohio new campaign, “Ohio…So much to Discover,” was unveiled by Governor Bob Taft.

He said the campaign is an attempt to add experiential marketing elements that create a vibrant look to the experience of traveling to that state.

There are four pillars of focus, including: Ohio outdoors, family history, history/heritage, and city/cultural/culinary.

The campaign features print, television and radio advertising.

In Michigan, water parks, golf schools and other attractions are being added, according to USA Today.

The state’s $15 billion tourism industry is looking to attract more leisure travelers.

“The tourism industry has had a couple of rough years,” said George Zimmermann, senior vice president of Travel Michigan. “But when we surveyed tour operators earlier this year, there was optimism for the first time in three years that revenues would be up.”
