Olympic severs ties with charter airline

Olympic Holidays has replaced Strategic Airlines with immediate effect over commercial concerns about the charter airline.

But the Greek and Cyprus specialist has reassured agents that this will not disrupt services and it will be ‘business as usual’.

The operator has sourced alternative airlines to fly passengers during October for the remainder of the summer 2012 season including Aegean Airlines, Travel Services – a Czech airline and Italian airline Livingston Air.

Strategic Airlines launched in 2010 and has worked with Olympic for the last two years but the Luxembourg registered carrier has been dogged by complaints about delays, technical problems and surly staff.

Photis Lambrianides, commercial director of Olympic said: "After discussions over the weekend with Strategic Airlines and in the light of the information they provided to us, we took this commercial decision to safeguard the interests of our customers and agents.

"We were made aware that they were facing various concerns. We made the decision that the concerns were serious enough that rather than wait for anything unforeseen to happen, we would take action now.

"For next year we will look at all the options and if Strategic Airlines can give us enough guarantees then, we will consider using them again.

"Alternative carriers for all destinations have now been sourced. Flight timings are virtually identical and we would like to take this opportunity to reassure the trade that it’s business as usual and that our actions will have minimal effect on their clients."

Strategic Airlines was not available for comment.
