Once isolated Riviera Maya emerging as meeting center
The Riviera Maya near Cancun, known in the past for secluded beaches and somewhat for its isolation, is well on its way to becoming a hot new convention destination.
A major reason: five new luxury hotels are all opening, including a Mandarin Oriental.
“Riviera Mays is on the up and up as a destination,” said Alan Love, director of sales and marketing for the Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya.
The 401-room Fairmont is scheduled to open this month. It has 40,000 square feet of meeting space, indoors and outdoors.
The 128-villa Mandarin now under construction will also have 2,700 square feet of meeting space.
