One person died and nine others were injured in a shoot-out in the tourist district of New Orleans on Sunday.

The shooting in the city’s French Quarter happened during a weekend of Thanksgiving holiday celebrations.

Authorities are searching for two men, believed to be visiting tourists, who started shooting on Bourbon Street following an argument.

The dead man, a 25-year-old from Louisiana, and the nine injured are not believed to have been the intended targets.

Two women and seven men aged between 20 and 37 were taken to hospital and five have since been released. The four who remain are expected to make a full recovery, say authorities.

The shooting took place during Bayou Classic Weekend, four days of festivities that include a Thanksgiving parade, a Saturday college football game between Grambling State and Southern University and a Saints game on Sunday.

Police arrested two men at the scene for illegally carrying weapons, one of whom was injured in the shoot-out.
