Online booking site AsiaRooms to close down
European travel giant TUI Group said it will close its underperforming online travel agency AsiaRooms.
The site has been operating at a loss for some time TUI said, and has struggled in an increasingly competitive Asia Pacific market dominated by the likes of Agoda, Booking.com and Expedia.
Hotel partners have been informed of the news and customers will be redirected to its sister site LateRooms, according to a Tnooz report.
"In a highly competitive market, AsiaRooms has struggled over the years to perform in line with expectations and we have not seen the improvements needed in order to support further investment," a TUI statement said.
"Coupled with ever-changing consumer habits, this has meant that AsiaRooms no longer represents our biggest opportunity for growth and we have therefore taken the decision to close the business."
TUI acquired LateRooms in 2007 for $67.5 million.
