ONYX plans roll out of 10 hotels in India
ONYX Hospitality Group is making a big play for the Indian market with plans to build 10 hotels in the next few years.
The Thailand based hotel company has signed an agreement with Kingsbridge Hospitality worth US$100 million to launch up to 10 properties, the first of which is slated to open in 2018.
"Our focus will be on large cities and business centres, with the exception of Goa, which is a leisure destination with very fixed occupancy rates," said Kashyap Vora, vice president development at Onyx.
"This expansion will enhance our presence in the South Asian and Southeast Asian markets, where we already have 38 hotels and resorts with another 16 in development."
The first property will be the 120-room Amari Residences GIFT City in Ahmedabad, opening in 2018, and then the Amari Noida the following year.
Indian travelers are the company’s second largest market and it continues to grow, Voora said.
"Last year we received 99,829 Indian guests across the group, a 16% year-on-year increase."
