Opodo and eDreams under investigation
The CAA has launched a probe into two online travel agents, Opodo and eDreams.
The association said it had been in discussions throughout this year with the two companies regarding a number of issues concerning their websites and price transparency.
The companies, which are both part of the eDreams Odigeo travel group, had failed to address these concerns, said the CAA..
Both companies have now been notified that a CAA investigation is underway, but a CAA spokesman said he was unable to reveal the nature of the probe.
Although not directly linked to the CAA’s investigation, this week the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) published a ruling upholding a complaint against Opodo relating to misleading advertising and pricing.
The ASA has also asked for this decision to be extended to cover the website of eDreams." The CAA welcomes both these decisions," it said in a statement.
"The CAA will continue to monitor the practices of airline operators and major travel agents in relation to price transparency and trading fairly to ensure that consumers are not misled and have access to comparable information on prices," it added.
Earlier this month Ryanair launched legal action against eDreams, which it claims is misleading consumers searching for cheap flights into booking Ryaniar seats on its copycat website, where they incur a fee.
Ryanair has included search giant Google in its application to the Irish High Court.
