Opodo names new boss
Ignacio Martos, boss of Spanish online travel portal Rumbo for six years, has been named CEO of Opodo.
He replaces Simon Vincent who resigned recently to become president of Hilton UK and Ireland in January.
The appointment was made by Opodo owner Amadeus IT Group. Martos holds a degree in law and an MBA from IESE Business School in Spain.
Rumbo became one of the Spanish online travel industry’s success stories and reached profitability in 2004 with Martos in charge. Gross sales growth has accelerated this year and now stands at more than 100% year-on-year, according to Amadeus.
Amadeus corporate strategy senior vice-president Philippe Chérèque said: “Ignacio Martos will bring a strong track record of performance to his new role at Opodo and we have every confidence that he is the right candidate to lead one of Europe’s leading online travel agencies.”
