Opportunity knocks! India’s population hits 1.21 billion
The latest population figures released by the Indian government make for interesting reading, especially if you are in the business of attracting Indian visitors.
India’s population rose to 1.21 billion people over the last 10 years, although the growth is slower for the first time in nine decades.
The population, which accounts for 17.5 percent of the world’s population, comprises 623.7 million males and 586.5 million females.
The country’s headcount is almost equal to the combined population of the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Japan put together.
The population has increased by more than 181 million during the decade 2001-2011, the census report said.
Of course, if you want to be a niche operator and concentrate on just one state in India, try Uttar Pradesh. Its population is a mere 199 million
China remains the most populous nation accounting for 19.4 percent of the global population.
