Orlando’s hurricane-hit hotels rebounded quickly
The three hurricanes that pounded Central Florida last fall led to some hotel closings, but now only 1,500 rooms out of the area’s 114,000 are still unavailable, according to figures from the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association.
Most of the closings were in the Lake Buena Vista-Walt Disney World area, said Rich Maladecki, president of the association.
In nearby Volusia and Brevard Counties, an estimated 2,000 of the 24,000 rooms there are still closed.
Rob Varley, executive director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism, said the hurricane has been a mixed blessing because it has resulted in new and remodeled hotels in the area.
Orlando area hotels are expecting record numbers this summer.
