Over 1million Britons to flee Jubilee celebrations
Two percent of the population, that’s 1.2m people, will flee the UK over the Jubilee weekend, making the most of the four-day break, said VisitEngland.
It said a further 4m Britons planned to take at least one overnight stay in the UK over the extended bank holiday weekend, generating an additional £700m in tourism spend.
VisitBritain said 6m Brits – that’s 12% of the population – were undecided about taking a trip for the forthcoming weekend. Many are waiting for the weather forecast before deciding whether to go away.
VisitEngland said 17% were unsure where they would like to go and 15% were waiting for deals or special offers.
Chief executive James Berresford said: "Obviously there are a lot of people still undecided about their plans for this weekend, and this ties in with the increasing trend we have seen for last-minute booking. "
Visiting friends and family is the most common activity planned for the long weekend, with 30% planning a trip for this purpose.
