Pair found dead in pool of historic Essex hotel
An investigation has been launched after two guests were found dead in the pool of a luxury country house hotel in Essex.
Emergency services were called to the Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hatfield Heath on Saturday evening when a guest discovered a man in his 30s and a woman, in her 20s, under the water.
Two employees dived into the pool but failed to revive the pair.
Post-mortem examinations are due to be carried out todoay (Monday).
Police said they are treating the deaths of the pair, believed to be from London, as unexplained.
Reports said the hotel, a popular conference and events venue, was hosting weddings, christenings and parties over the weekend.
According to the Mirror, a Murder Mystery event was scheduled to take place at the hotel and when some guests turned up they thought the police were actors and were part of the act.
The historic hotel bills itself as "one of England’s most established country house hotels" and was the venue for the wedding of Jade Goody and Jack Tweed in February 2009, weeks before the reality TV star lost her battle with cancer.
