Pandemic record number of passengers screened at US airports
Airports across the country were busier than at any other time since the start of the pandemic.
TSA screeners handled 1.95 million people at airports at the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend on Frday, which is a massive 500% up on the same time in 2020 during the height of the pandemic travel downturn.
It is still about half a million fewer than a normal holiday weekend but shows confidence is returning as more people get vaccinated.
About 1.9 million travelers flew back home on Monday.
Overall, nearly nine million passed through airport screenings over the long weekend.
