Paraguay Cordillera invites travelers to discover its treasures with a new campaign

Saturday, 15 Nov, 2025 0

With the slogan “Cordillera shines with its culture, nature, and tradition,” officials unveiled the 2025–2026 Summer Plan for Paraguay’s Cordillera during an event attended by Governor Denis Lichi and local and regional authorities.

Backed by the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur), the initiative aims to boost domestic and regional tourism. It will showcase a region celebrated for its deep history, natural beauty, and unforgettable experiences. Andrés Ortiz, Director General of Tourism Products, emphasized that the new plan shows strong commitment to regional development through experiences tailored for every visitor.

The program also seeks to energize the local economy by spotlighting Cordillera’s cultural, historical, and environmental wealth. Paraguay wants to position the region as a destination for experiential travel rooted in community, heritage, and biodiversity.

Multiple new events in Cordillera

The season starts on November 28 with the traditional novena in honor of the Virgin of the Miracles of Caacupé. The celebration is one of Paraguay’s most significant expressions of religious devotion. In the days leading up to the December 8 holiday, thousands of pilgrims make their way to the nation’s spiritual capital, turning Cordillera into the epicenter of religious tourism.

The celebration is complemented by a slate of cultural activities, including the Jajotopa Cordillerape Christmas markets. Visitors can then browse local crafts, artisanal goods, and the region’s signature cuisine. The governor’s office is also launching the 2025–2026 Festive Atmosphere Contest. The initiative encourages municipalities to create vibrant Christmas displays.

On December 20, Piribebuy will host the inaugural Cordillera Summer Festival 2025. It will feature concerts, dance performances, and cultural showcases. This event should become a highlight of the department’s summer season.

January 2026 invites travelers to explore Cordillera’s natural wonders. Destinations such as Lake Ypacaraí, Tobatí, Altos, and Piribebuy will offer eco-friendly activities, water sports, and programs dedicated to environmental sustainability. Scenic landscapes and refreshing streams make the region an ideal setting for a deeper connection with nature.

February shifts the focus to culture and tradition. Numerous municipalities come alive with saints’ celebrations, folk festivals, and events honoring local heritage. Standout festivities include Artisan Week in Tobatí and Atyrá, the Traditional Dance and Music Festival in Eusebio Ayala, and the Summer 2026 Entrepreneurs Expo in Caacupé. They all showcase a diverse array of handcrafted products.

Empowering communities

The season is expected to conclude in March with a blend of gastronomy, culture, and pilgrimage activities. It will unite religious tourism with local traditions and sustainable practices. The first edition of a new rural and sustainable tourism event will also debut, offering visitors a chance to explore indigenous traditions and responsible travel experiences.

Collectively, these initiatives underscore Cordillera’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism—supported by Senatur, local governments, entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations across the department.
