Passengers warned of further flight cancellations due to snow and ice
Bristol and Bournemouth Airports were forced to suspend all flights this morning, dozens of flights from Heathrow were cancelled, and other airports are warning of potential disruption throughout the day due to heavy overnight snowfall and freezing temperatures.
British Airways is understood to have cancelled more than 30 flights from Heathrow this morning, mainly on domestic and short-haul routes. A flight to New York has also been cancelled and Air Canada has pulled its flight from Heathrow to Toronto.
Passengers travelling from London City Airport also face disruption as the airport is experiencing some delays and cancellations, and Cardiff and Exeter are warning passengers to check their flight details with their airlines.
The Met Office has issued several weather warnings for the UK this morning for both snow and ice. There is an Amber warning of more snowfall for London and the South East up until 11am, while a Yellow warning has been issued for much of England and Wales, where snow and ice are likely to cause problems up to 1pm today.
Almost all flights to and from Bristol have been cancelled for the rest of today due to snow on the runway. Passengers are being advised to contact their airlines with specific queries.
Bournemouth closed its airfield for snow clearing, but it reopened at 9am. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for further information.
Both British Airways and Flybe are giving passengers the option to cancel, change or delay their flights due to the bad weather.
BA said passengers due to travel on any short-haul flight from Heathrow today can re-book, free of charge, for travel until February 7. A notice on its website says: "We are expecting adverse weather conditions across parts of South East England on Friday 1 February, which is likely to affect some of our short-haul flights."
"We recognise the uncertainty that the bad weather may be causing customers, and have therefore introduced flexible rebooking options for all customers on short-haul flights flying to/from London Heathrow."
Flybe is giving passengers the option to delay their journey for up to seven days, or to switch to another flight. Amend fees will be waived, but passengers will have to pay any difference in airfare.
