Stefan Betz appointed Country Manager
In May Germany’s premiere low-cost airline, Germanwings announced the appointment of 26-year old Stefan Betz as Country Manager Western Europe, with responsibility for co-ordinating all Marketing and Sales activity for the airline in the UK, Ireland and France.
Betz has four years experience of senior sales and marketing roles within the travel industry including airlines, hotels and tourism. Besides gaining a BA in Business Administration from Leibniz Academy Hanover he joined Lufthansa German Airlines, followed by roles at Arabella Sheraton Hotels & Resorts and Dusit Hotels & Resorts. Prior to joining Germanwings, Betz was Marketing & International Business Development Executive at a tour operator and tourism industry service provider based in Hanover.
Germanwings operates direct scheduled flights from London, Edinburgh and Dublin to Cologne/Bonn, and also from London to Hamburg and London to Stuttgart. The airline also has bases at Berlin, Munich and Dortmund. The airline has maintained significant growth since its launch in 2002 and has set itself high targets for this year to increase turnover to well over 600 million Euros and carry 8 million passengers – up from 7.1 million in 2006.
Summer 2007 will see continued expansion of the Germanwings flight network as the airline will serve 57 destinations from Cologne/Bonn and 33 from Stuttgart. In addition to this the airline is also introducing online check in; a fully-flexible “Flex-Plus” fixed price tariff scheme for frequent fliers and business travellers and new online services for travel agents. A new “Rail&Fly” deal also allows passengers to get to Germanwings airports from virtually any part of Germany for just 19 Euros.
Betz took up his role on April 15, replacing Gordon Jenner. For further information visit www.germanwings.com
