Philippines lifts Boracay casino ban
The Philippines’ top holiday island will be allowed to open a casino. The long standing ban on gambling on Boracay has been lifted by President Rodrigo Duterte. He remains against gambling but is mindful of the need to increase tax revenues.
The government blocked a plan in 2018 to build a $$500 million casino resort there. Provisional license holder Alliance Global Group said it would press ahead with its original casino project in Boracay subject to approvals. The company already operates resorts on the island.
