P&O blames chlorine for hair-raising incident
P&O Cruises has apologised after one of its cruises left nearly 100 passengers with upset stomachs – and nine of them with green hair.
The online news provider Ananova today reports that the passengers’ hair changed colour after swimming in the pool during a 10-day cruise around Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
Chlorine has been blamed for the embarrassing incident, though the company was quick to point out that the passengers affected all had very fair or dyed hair (before it turned green). A spokeswoman confirmed to News From Abroad that all the passengers affected had been “referred to the ship’s beauty salon for corrective treatment”.
The spokeswoman also confirmed that 95 people out of 2,000 on the 10-day cruise had been struck down with a gastro-intestinal complaint: “Everyone fully recovered and it was a very small number of people … but we do take any incident like this very seriously.” She added: “The passengers’ hair was certainly not bright green (as reported by Ananova) – more of a green tinge.”
