Police blame TV show for Faliraki shame
Officer says ‘Club Reps’ made people think they could do what they want
British police officers drafted to the Greek resort of Faliraki have blamed a television documentary for the drunkenness and debauchery that it currently plaguing the resort. As reported by News From Abroad, three British tourists have died in the resort over the last few weeks, while several other Britons have been fined thousands of pounds for exposing bodily parts in public.
Superintendent Andy Rhodes, who has travelled from Blackpool to advise the Greek authorities on how to deal with the British contingent, has stated that many of the problems have been exacerbated by the TV show Club Reps, which was based in the resort.
He reportedly told The Guardian that the show made young people think they could “do what they want” in the resort, adding: “It has increased trade but brought a problem in terms of behaviour. People like watching it but there’s a lot of people here who have been influenced by it.”
The makers of the show, SMG Television, replied: “The programme makers filmed what they saw and the programmes that were broadcast were simply a reflection of what was already commonplace in the resort. Club Reps was not responsible for the actions of these holidaymakers.”
