Police operation in Geneva area

Swiss authorities confirmed an ongoing police operation in the Geneva area last night linked to IS.

Police raised the alert level in Geneva from ‘vague threat’ to a ‘precise threat’ adding that investigations were being carried out to locate ‘suspicious individuals’ thought to be in the city or the area.

Reports say the individuals were jihadists with links to the Islamic State (IS) group, and some claim there is a link to the terror attacks in Paris on November 13.

"If you’re in the area, you should follow the instructions of Swiss security authorities," warned the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in its updated travel advice yesterday.

"Geneva police has raised its level of vigilance but Swiss authorities have not otherwise changed the overall public security status in Switzerland."
