Port Canaveral expands with new cruise ship deals
Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise lines have agreed new long-term deals to homeport ships and continue port calls at Port Canaveral, Florida.
Both cruise lines expect to sign agreements with the port authority next month.
Norwegian have agreed a multi-year deal to continue the port calls of the Breakaway and Gem vessels for three more years with an option to extend for a further two years.
Royal Caribbean are due to ink a 10-year contract with the port covering two five-year options with guaranteed passenger fee revenues starting at $9.7 million a year.
Over the 10-year period, RCI will pay an additional $48 million for priority use of the new Cruise Terminal 1 currently under construction.
RCI’s existing agreement runs until the end of 2014 and is valued at around $7 million annually.
From November, RCI ship Explorer of the Seas will homeport at Port Canaveral, joining sister vessels Enchantment of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas.
