Porter Airlines to stay grounded until February 2021

Toronto based carrier Porter Airlines will now stay grounded until next year.

The airline now hopes to resume services by 11 February, 2021.

Flights have been suspended since the start of Covid-19 disruption to travel in March, and it has extended temporary grounding a number of times since then.

"Every delay to restarting flights has the greatest effect on our team members, who are eager to do their part to help serve customers under safe conditions," said Michael Deluce, Porter’s President and CEO.

"Unfortunately, restrictive travel advisories, border closures and quarantines have suffocated travel demand to the point that a return is highly unlikely in 2020."

It had most recently hoped to resume flights in mid-December.

"Deferring service until 2021 is not a decision we anticipated having to make as Covid-19 emerged early this year," Deluce said in a statement.

There is some cause for optimism with the federal government due to start talks with the industry this week over financial assistance.
