Protest threat forces cancellation of Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival

Sunday, 14 Jun, 2019 0

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival has become a victim of the mass protests in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board cancelled the weekend event at the last minute in view of continuing unrest.

The HKTB made the decision to cancel ‘after careful consideration’ and with Hong Kong protest leaders calling for another mass rally on Sunday.

People have been out in force on the streets protesting a controversial extradition bill, forcing the closure of most government offices.

The Dragon Boat Carnival was to be held at the Central Harbourfront from June 14-16.

It is one of the most popular dragon boat events in the world attracting thousands of visitors, with beer tents, food, kids’ activities and boat races.

The HKTB said it will inform the travel trade and visitors of relevant arrangements through various channels.
