Puerto Rican PR campaign launched
Concerned about negative publicity from the recent 10-day fiscal crisis, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company launched several new initiatives.
These included a partnership with CheapCaribbean.com to offer discounted packages and rewards at participating properties. Discounted travel cards are also being offered.
Puerto Rico is also participating in the annual Caribbean Week events in New York next month. They are scheduling several culinary presentations at Manhattan locations.
Tourism apparently was not impacted by the fiscal crisis that shut down 43 government agencies and put 100,000 people out of work. In fact, hotel occupancies increased by 8% during the shutdown, according to tourism officials.
