Qantas’ first A380 arrives in Sydney

Wednesday, 17 Sep, 2008 0

Qantas has announced that its first Airbus A380 will be arriving in Sydney this Sunday, landing at 9:00am.

After a delay of nearly two years, Airbus will take over the keys of the massive aricraft in Toulouse, France on Friday and the aircraft will fly direct to Sydney, with a skeleton passenger list of Qantas staff and about 30 aviation media.

Qantas is the third operator of the world’s largest passenger airliner after Singapore Airlines, which has received 5 of its 19 on order and Emirates, which has ordered 58, with 1 delivered, with the current aircraft recently grounded due to some technical problems.

Qantas has ordered 20 A380’s with the first making its maiden commercial flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles on October 20 and its first flight out of Sydney on October 24, also bound for LAX.

Two more A380’s are expected to be delivered by the end of this year and Qantas has plans to progressively introduce A380 services on its Sydney to London route from early 2009.

The Qantas A380 carries 450 passengers in four classes â€“ first, business, premium economy and economy – compared to Singapore’s 471-seats and Emirates’ 514-seats, with the Qantas aircraft configuration of 14 first class seats and 332 economy seat on the main or lower deck, and 72 business class and 32 premium economy seats on the upper deck.
