Qantas flight forced to return last week

A Qantas flight en route to Sydney was forced to return to Melbourne after a landing gear fault indicator lit up.

Flight 434 left Melbourne at 1:30pm (AEDT) and landed back at Tullamarine at 2:15pm.

A Qantas spokesman said the flight had only just left Melbourne before it received a landing gear indication fault warning.

“There may have been a problem with the landing gear, we don’t actually believe it was, but we decided it was, obviously, the most prudent thing to do, to return immediately to Melbourne,” the spokesman said.

Engineers were inspecting the 767 plane to determine possible cause.

Passengers were delayed more than two hours and were due to depart at around 4.30pm, the spokesman said.
