Qantas irked at regulator delay on Alliance Aviation takeover
Australia’s competition regulator again delayed its decision on Qantas’ proposed takeover of Alliance Aviation.
The third delay has miffed a ‘disappointed ‘Qantas.
It called it the ‘longest processes for informal clearance’.
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) will now announce its decision in March 2023.
Qantas is spending $559 million to acquire Alliance Aviation.
The ACCC began the informal review of the proposed deal in May.
The review was first delayed in July due to needing ‘additional time to continue its investigation and consider information provided by market participants’.
The ACCC then flagged concerns over reduced competition on regional routes, especially for the FIFO resources sector
Qantas claims it has been ‘clear about its intention to fully acquire Alliance’ when it first bought a minority stake three years ago.
“Qantas is a firm believer in regulation and due process, and has cooperated fully with information requests from the ACCC.”
