Queensland sets the pace in month of sport
Queensland will lead Australia with a huge month of sport in October
"We have started October with the Cardiac Challenge (bike race) in Cairns and sports fans are going to need as much stamina as the participants to see the month through," said Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Jann Stuckey
Townsville is set to host the AFL Masters National Carnival and the Rugby League Test between Australia and New Zealand. The spotlight will remain on the north for the Crocodile Trophy mountain bike race.
Gold Coast events include Coolangatta Gold surf carnival, Gold Coast Sevens Fever Pitch, Netfest, the Queensland Beach Volleyball Tour and the Armor All Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars.
The Bledisloe Cup rugby showdown between the Wallabies and New Zealand’s All Blacks will be played in Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast will host the Noosa International Sevens Festival.
The minister added, "Sporting events play an important role in providing economic and social benefits to the state’s regions and communities by boosting local businesses and promoting the destinations where they are held."
