Record year for tourism in Cancun

Thursday, 15 Jan, 2016 0
Last year was a record-breaking one for tourism in Cancun, with more than five million visiting the resort city, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos and Holbox.

This is the highest visitation ever, the Office of Visitors and Conventions said.

Hotel occupancy was also up, despite adding more than 700 new rooms during 2015.

The city’s average occupancy rate of 82% was the highest in Mexico, well above other resort cities such as Los Cabos and Acapulco, the Hotel Association of Cancún said.

Tourism officials also saw a big jump in conventions and meetings business, which doubled in 2015 and now accounts for 20% of all visitor arrivals.
