Rendezvous delays Christchurch re-opening
The Rendezvous Hotel Christchurch has been forced to delay its re-opening following last year’s earthquakes in the New Zealand South Island city.
The central city hotel was due to open today. However, the building owners have engaged engineers to recheck the Pacific Tower property, to ensure the December 23 earthquakes have not compromised the structural integrity of the building.
“These additional checks unfortunately mean the 171-room hotel, operated by the Rendezvous Hospitality Group, will not be able to open as planned on Thursday,” said a statement from the hotel group.
“The postponement is necessary and the first priority must be public safety,” says Rendezvous Hotel Christchurch general manager Brad Watts.
Guests who are booked into the hotel have been appraised of the situation and assisted with alternative accommodation as required.
