Reno resort confirms data breach

Monday, 27 Apr, 2016 0
Reno’s largest hotel Grand Sierra Resort has confirmed a data security breach has occurred impacting guest card data on at least one occasion.

The hotel says information may have been stolen during card transactions at food and retail outlets.

It said it does not affect cards used only to book and pay for lodging.

Exact details are sketchy with the company saying a hack took place between February 19, 2014 and March 13, 2014 or between March 20, 2015 and August 6, 2015.

The resort was contacted on September 29, 2015 by law enforcement and third party forensics investigators confirmed in January this year that a breach had taken place.

Information compromised includes cardholder’s name, credit card number and credit card expiration date.

Grand Sierra has ‘worked diligently’ to beef up in-house security protocols, it said, and has advised all customers to review their bank and credit card statements.

It did not disclose how many customers have been affected.
