River cruising from Chicago to the Big Easy
Sometimes there’s no better place to visit than your own back yard.
For those who want to see the USA next summer, small-ship cruise line Blount Small Ship Adventures is planning an unusual new itinerary: on the river from Chicago to the Big Easy and back.
The 88-passenger Grande Mariner will spend 15 nights sailing from Chicago to New Orleans on the Illinois, Ohio and Mississippi rivers, with port calls in Joliet, Havana, Peoria and Alton, IL; Kuttawa, KY; Pickwick, TN; Columbus, MS; and Demopolis and Mobile, AL.
The line is planning two trips, beginning on May 15 and June 2, 2014. The first will head north from New Orleans; the second will head south from Chicago.
Fares start at $4,999 per person.
In addition to cruises on the Mississippi River and its tributaries, Blount offers trips on the Great Lakes, along the East and Gulf coasts, in the Caribbean and in Central America.
