Rotorua hotel celebrates first birthday

December 1st marks the first birthday of Rotorua’s youngest international hotel, Hotel Ibis Rotorua. Since the doors opened over 50,000 guests have enjoyed the hospitality of the 145 room Rotorua property.

Located adjacent to the Royal Lakeside Novotel Rotorua, Hotel Ibis Rotorua offers guests quality, simplicity and value for money. It was the third and most recent addition to the Ibis brand in New Zealand and the second hotel in Rotorua managed by Accor.

The property has been performing consistently well and achieved a ‘full house’ in only its second month of operation. “Generally new hotels take time to build up a strong customer following, but we’ve been very pleased with the performance of the property,” says Klaus Gottschalk, General Manager, Royal Lakeside Novotel Rotorua & Hotel Ibis Rotorua. In November 2005 the hotel achieved an occupancy level of over 85%.

The Hotel Ibis Rotorua has been particularly successful at attracting international inbound business and conference groups. “Being located next door to the Royal Lakeside Novotel means we can offer conference groups different categories of accommodation by using both properties”, adds Mr Gottschalk.

Sporting groups are also attracted to the hotel due in part to the number of triple share rooms available. “It makes a sports trip really affordable yet still with access to all the amenities an international hotel offers”, concludes Mr Gottschalk.

Management and staff celebrate the occasion.
