Royal Caribbean reinvents ship safety drills with tech

Friday, 24 Jul, 2020 0

Royal Caribbean Group has unveiled a full revamp of its onboad safety drills.

It is rolling out technology to aid awareness in case of an emergency, instead of mustering en masse in a single space.

What to do, including the safe use of life jackets, will be shared using  the eMuster tech, via guests’ mobile devices and interactive stateroom TVs.

"The development of this new muster process is an elegant solution to an outdated, unpopular process," said Richard Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.

"The fact that this will also save guests time and allow the ship to operate without pause means that we can increase health, safety and guest satisfaction."

Guests can review the information in their own time ahead of departure which eliminates the need for assembling in large groups.

After going through the safety information, guests will complete the ‘drill’ by going to their respective assembly stations, where they will be verified by a crew member.

Each of the various steps must be completed before departure under maritime law.
