Royal Caribbean ship hit by vomiting bug
Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas is the latest cruise ship to be hit by a vomiting bug.
Hundreds of passenger fell ill with the suspected ‘Norovirus’ virus on the 11-day Caribbean cruise that returned to South Florida on Friday, reports the Daily Mail.
The cruise lines’ figures reported that 105 of nearly 2,000 passengers were sick as well as three of 772 crew members. Dozens of the passengers with symptoms were quarantined.
Passengers said they saw crew members trying to sanitize every inch of the ship – including wiping down all the railings – but the virus was so contagious, it couldn’t be contained.
Norovirus is highly contagious and causes severe diarrhoea and vomiting. The disease typically lasts only a few days but can be prolonged without proper hydration.
The cruise line said in a statement that crew members conducted enhanced cleaning to help prevent the spread of the illness.
It added that after returning to port, crew members aboard the Vision of the Seas conducted an extensive and thorough sanitizing on board the ship and within the cruise terminal to help prevent future illness.
