Royal Caribbean International has unveiled first details of its next generation Quantum class ships which will include new experiences such as skydiving at sea, an indoor entertainment complex with bumper cars and roller skating, and larger staterooms.

"We are excited to be introducing major advancements in ship design and offerings on Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas," said president and CEO Adam Goldstein. "The innovative spirit of our brand is alive and well, and with Quantum class, we will deliver more unexpected activities in the most extraordinary spaces. Our guests should prepare to be wowed."

The cruise line said bedrooms were, on average, 9% larger than those on its Oasis class ships and interior staterooms have "virtual balconies" offering real-time views of the ocean and destinations. Interconnecting staterooms have been designed for families. There are also new studio staterooms for single travellers, junior suites and larger loft suites.

Quantum class will debut on Quantum of the Seas in autumn 2014. Sister-ship Anthem of the Seas will arrive the following spring.
