Ryanair cabin crew secure ‘inflation busting’ pay rise
Unite claims to have secured an ‘inflation busting’ pay deal for Ryanair cabin crew.
The union said senior cabin crew directly employed by the airline will get a 9.5% increase, back-dated to September 2019, and junior cabin crew will get an 11.01% rise.
Both groups will receive further annual increases of around 2.9% and 3.4% on basic pay respectively for 2020, 2021 and 2022, it said.
This will amount to a total rise of 14.8% for senior crew and 17.8% for junior crew on the total pay package .
Main cabin crew employed by employment agencies (Crewlink and Workforce) to work on Ryanair flights will receive pay increases of 0.6% and 10.8% depending on their length of service.
The agency workers will also receive an increase of 5.3% in base pay for 2020, 2021 and 2022. Unite said this would give a total average pay rise of 19.43%. New starters will receive an increases of £1,000 per annum.
Workers’ conditions will also improve, said Unite, including the transition to direct employment, guaranteed hours and protected days off.
Members voted by 79% in favour of the deal among Ryanair directly employed staff and 98% in favour among agency workers.
The pay deal is the first that Unite has conducted with Ryanair after securing recognition at the company 18 months ago.
Unite national officer for aviation Oliver Richardson said: "This pay deal, that has been overwhelmingly endorsed by members, means that pay at Ryanair is now comparable with other airlines, and strong progress has also been made on improving terms and conditions.
"Our members will see a real and immediate financial benefit from this pay deal which is heavily front loaded.
"The negotiations were conducted in a highly positive manner and were a real testimony to Unite’s reps involved all of whom were new to the role.
"Unite will be looking to build on this agreement going forward as we continue to develop a strong working relationship with Ryanair."
