Ryanair is a favourite with soccer fans
Low-cost airlines in Europe and Asia are hitching themselves to the sports travel bandwagon by offering cheap fares to major sporting events.
Ryanair says there has been "a massive surge in bookings" following last week’s draw for the Champions League group stages, which kick-off September 18-19.
‘¨Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said, "Thousands of football fans will once again fly with Ryanair during the season and we’ve already seen supporters of Manchester City, the other Manchester club (Ryanair’s attempt at humour?), Arsenal and current holders, Chelsea, book flights for the new Champions League season in record numbers."
Meanwhile, AirAsia X is offering special fares from Kuala Lumpur to Japan (Osaka, Tokyo) and to Australia (Perth, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Sydney) in conjunction with the MotoGP races which will be held in Japan and Australia in October 2012.
