Ryanair plans Malta flights
Ryanair plans to add Malta to its network of low fare flights.
The no-frills carrier wants to start a daily service from Luton and three flights a week from Pisa on October 31, followed by three flights a week from Dublin next February.
Fare details have not been disclosed but the carrier said it believed it could start a “new era” for tourism to the island, following a period of decline.
Deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: “We have been encouraging the Maltese government to promote the advent of low cost airlines as a solution to the declining tourism industry.
“The provision of a long-term, low cost regime at Malta International Airport is crucial to the success of low fares airlines and we welcome the initiatives by the government to effectively reduce the cost over the long term.
“We believe the proposal is the start of a new era for Maltese tourism. The decline, which has been evident in the visitor numbers for some time, will now reverse and that success can be built upon with more growth which Ryanair is quite prepared to provide to Malta from its various bases throughout Europe in the coming years.”
